Hi Camm,
The option -Wno-unused-but-set-variable is a relatively new option in GCC.
For example, on the system compiler provided by SLE-11-SP1, GCC aborts
on unrecognized options; therefore GCL-2.6.8pre builds fails there.
I would suggest that the inclusion of that switch in CFLAGS be
controlled by a configure-time test.
