Markus, how are these bitmaps used in xgnokii? Are they used at all? I set
data->bitmap to NULL at the moment, but probably I should save this bitmap
somewhere?

BTW. If removing global gdat means some major rewrite of xgnokii we may
delay it a bit and just ensure that we null the data entries after the usage in 
the
local functions (I mean: null it after assigning it to the local variable).
