I tested it on a FreeBSD and an OpenBSD box and it solves the problem.
I added the include into the compat.h instead of it. It seems a more
appropriate place.
I tested the changes suggested on OpenBSD 3.3 because my CD's arrived in the
mail yesterday.
It worked great. Some caveats to point out are that I am only using it as a
method of SMS'ing nagios alerts to me.
Also, with OBSD there is no /etc/ld.so.conf file. The simplest way to
accomplish the changes required for gnokii to work is to reboot the host.
The boot process will rerun ldconfig and reread all the right things to put
the stuff in the appropriate place (/var/run/ld.so.hints). I don't know
for sure what you should do to make this happen manually, but I suspect it
might be to run ldconfig -m (for merge)
