Sure: the makefile already does this in one form:

make dist

This creates a tarball of the gnokiifs directory and greates 
gnokiifs.tar.gz in the directory below.

This untars in to a directory called gnokiifs.

Presumably you would prefer if it created gnokiifs-0.x.tar.gz and untarred 
in to gnokiifs-0.x/. Are version numbers dealt with centrally in this 
project, or do you wish me to do the version numbering for gnokiifs 
myself?

Also, is there a particular form that you would like these scripts to 
take? (for example, stript name, where it puts the tarball, etc)?
