Sun have both, and Ralph's method of looking for the first 'dpi'
mentioned in the font path would work here.
Isn't this supposed to be set such that you can pick it up with
"xdpyinfo"?
I'd be inclined just to have it at 100, as all these heuristics assume a
well set up font path and display. Better too big and legible than 75dpi
and grottily* small and illegible.
