Hi!
Goal: install Debian Hurd on my real SATA hard disk
Downloaded:
http://chuangtzu.ftp.acc.umu.se/cdimage/ports/latest/hurd-amd64/current/debian-sid-hurd-amd64-NETINST-1.iso
Tried first with Brasero, but after a long while I realized that it wrote a
data disk with the iso file as data.
Then realized it does not like the iso file because it does not understood the
format.
So I then used xfburn, that worked.
Booting on my i3-8100, worked a bit... until it said it was not seeing the
CDROM, that I needed a driver for it.
My i3-8100 is an AHCI only motherboard:
[ 0.477234] ahci 0000:00:17.0: version 3.0
[ 0.487451] ahci 0000:00:17.0: AHCI vers 0001.0301, 32 command slots, 6 Gbps,
SATA mode
[ 0.487454] ahci 0000:00:17.0: 4/4 ports implemented (port mask 0xf)
[ 0.487456] ahci 0000:00:17.0: flags: 64bit ncq sntf led clo only pio slum pa
rt ems deso sadm sds apst
See the only flag!
I suspected that it was the reason for it not to work.
Sp I put the SATA drive in my older Optiplex 380, and booted the CD with it.
At first, it stopped at: wd0 ... int(nulll)2 ... or something like that.
So I installed PopOS on the disk.
Then I could choosed than language, keyboard...
but last line is:
8086:27da SMB Serial bus not configured ... I means something like that.
The 1*(installer) 2(shell) 3(shell) 4(log) appeared...
but I was not able to activate a shell or log... tried many keys combos with 2
F2, etc.
But the clock is updatated in upper right.
What was the correct combo key to get the log?
My hypothesis is that it tried to initialize SMBUS and failed... but maybe that
something totally different.
Adv ice welcome!
