Just remove them; we don't really support legacy binary formats.
Can we wait until the next snapshot/release to remove support?
Otherwise, the system may be unbuildable by whatever is the most
recent distribution. I know the system hasn't always been buildable
by whatever is the most recent distribution, but the property is nice
to have, and I'd like to see it preserved better.
