Sorry, i forgot: Of course i tried to recompiled nss-mysql, with 

no result. BTW: Which mysql-versions do you use? I use 

mysql 4.0.13

Seems to be a glibc dependant problem.I have two 

gentoo-boxes, one with glibc 2.3.1, one with glibc 2.3.2. On 

the 2.3.2 box only things like ls and finger which show 

usernames works, but nothing which requires uid-change. 

On the 2.3.1 box some services (like login, su, ftp (vsftpd)) 

work well, but some other services don't work as expected, 

especially ssh is VERY unreliable. Sometimes i get a "wrong 

password" error, sometimes i can login succesful, sometimes 

ssh hangs...
