opps, just found things don't work as expected after all. 

 

if I have the following: 

group:       compat  

passwd:      files mysql  

shadow:      compat 

 

then I can su to a user in the databaes.  

 

If I have : 

 

group:       compat  

passwd:      files mysql  

shadow:      files mysql  

 

then I can 'id' a user in the database, but 'su' seems to 

freeze.   

 

It seems perhaps gentoo is a comon theme here?  If 

developers want access to a system with this problem, let 

me know, it can be arranged.

right, I've set this up on 3 gentoo 1.4 computers now, 

getting the same problem on all 3. 

 

I've found that if I have this in my nsswitch.conf, things 

work without problems 

 

group:       compat 

passwd:      files mysql 

shadow:      files mysql 

 

So it seems it's just groups that nss-mysql doesn't like. 

 

Can anyone else confim this behaviour?
