Follow-up Comment #6, patch #8051 (project octave):

That libuuid conversion is a bit of a kluge, but as I recall was necessary for
something else later on (linking Octave itself?  I don't remember).  If there
is some way to build without that step, then that would be a better solution. 
I just remember not knowing what else to do and generating a .dll file for
libuuid worked for me.
