Follow-up Comment #1:
I stumbled over this old patch. Unfortunately, the icon file is missing in the
patch and it can not be applied anymore to the new structure of the main
window code.
Instead, based of the idea of this patch, I have written cset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/05b8ad7b67e8 that implements a
menu for handling the profiler in the main window's menu and an indicator for
the profiler's state in the status bar (by now, only when started and stopped
via the GUI).
