It would mean that different GNU Taler wallet implementations might not
be able to use the same backup/sync system.

There's also the concern that somebody else makes a proprietary version
of the wallet that's *really* easy to use for the average user, but has
some nasty things in it.  This means we should provide the best possible
user experience for the average user initially.
