The Planes:

I consider the idea that the world is a giant tree stump to be true.

As far as realms of the dead or planes of alignment, I see them in
three categories - the planes of Good (+2 to +5) the Planes of Evil
(-2 to -5), and the Planes of Neutrality (1, 0, -1). Those who die in
a specific alignment come to rest on the plane of that alignment after
passing through all the other planes between the plane they die on the
plane they are aligned with.

Moving from what is to what people believe, the elemental planes are
thought to be other planets or worlds in orbit around Adonthell's sun.
The sub-elementals Khel and Elmoast watch creation from Adonthell's
two moons.

The Powers:

In regards to the Powers, I suppose my answer would be that people are
right in believing that they exist (at least most of them) but some
are wrong about the extent of their power - they are commonly and
mistakenly seen as infallible and nearly omnipotent. This links back
to my belief that many myths are essentially accurate but many not be
precisely true.

Humans, in particular, tend to see the Powers as gods and to think
that there are more of them than actually exist. For example, Humans
'gods' like Tyr (War/Justice), Rhun (Wisdom or Fate), and others
(including evil 'gods' like Hephret, Lokaios, and Zaphirel) do not
exist except as servants or aspect of the primary Powers, of whom
there are no more than a dozen or so.

Some of these Powers are Elemental in nature - Cirda, Galor and Ylan
together control water and fish, Foros rules Fire, and Endwe
(sometimes called Endu) who rules the winds. The elemental power of
the Earth is ruled by Utanli, who has the misfortune of often being
mistaken for his brother then Axebearer. The others, of course, rule a
specific aspect of the world.

Tentatively, they are as follows:

Potenlias - the All-Father, the High King, creator of the other powers

Aethrin (Aethrus, Aethirius, and variants) Lord of Magick, Vision, and
the Stars. To Humans, also the God of Sleep and Dreams. Some Elves,
particularly in later centuries, view Aethrin rather than Potenlias as
the origin of the Powers.

Syul (Syl, Sylv, Sayl, Sayul) The Green Lady - Plants

The Axebearer (whose name is unknown) - Crafts, Artisans, Invention.
Utanli and the Axebearer together are the warriors of the powers

Khel - Ice

Elmoast - Lightning/Storm. Elmoast is in some senses a second-order
power who serves both Foros and Endwe, but because of the nature of
his domain, he has servants of his own. It should also be noted that
Endwe is also seen as the ruler of Mists, Fog, and Rain.

Majestis - Beasts

Ultimlas - Birds

Venag Danir - Corruption, Destruction, and Decay.

Nobody has had any thoughts about this yet, so feel free to make up
something. The question is, how real is what people believe? Is the
Green Lady or the Axebearer "real"? Or do they only exist to explain
some otherwise inexplicable phenomena? If they are real, there might
as well be other planes to act as their ethereal homes ... whether
they are reachable by living or dead is yet another question. I would
say that living creatures would normally not be able to travel
anywhere besides their own plane. But in a world of magic, basically
anything may become possible.

One purpose of other planes might be "fast travelling", using some
kind of ancient portals for example. These might lead to another plane
where time passes differently or distances are shorter. Nothing we'll
need for v0.4, since the area is still pretty small, but perhaps later
on it would be a nice thing.
