[Aspell-user] Re: can't add words to dictionary

From: Doug Nelson
Subject: [Aspell-user] Re: can't add words to dictionary

User-agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 (Windows/20080708)

I no longer need any help as I was able to get this to work by doing the following:

aspell --home-dir=\\neofs1\userapps\apps\cygwin -a
*testword
#
ctrl+c

The problem (in my estimation) is that the documentation doesn't make clear that only dictionaries in the home directory can have words added to them, but that seems to be the case. The documentation also seems to suggest that it is the responsibility of the person doing the setup to create the file (.aspell.en.pws) before any words can be added to it when in fact, aspell needs to create the file.

I also was able to get the interactive session to work by including the same reference to the home directory.

aspell --home-dir=\\neofs1\userapps\apps\cygwin --personal=.aspell.en.pws -c dougfile.txt

I have tried adding words to a dictionary to no avail. I created the dictionary just fine (aspell --lang=en_US create master ./claimswl < claims.txt) and I know my test is using it.

I have tried this:

aspell -d claimswl.rws -a
*testword
a#
ctrl+c

Also, when using aspell interactively (aspell --d claimswl -c dougfile.txt), I type a for add and the word is never added.

I have verified I have administrative rights to the file and the folder.

I can't seem to follow the instructions for creating a personal word list as it requires the file to start with a period (.), something windows will not let me do?

I have been reading the documentation for 6 hours and it seems to be extremely lacking.

Doug
