I dont agree I think that Egypt should be portrayed as more advanced than the current time and in light of this fact we should skip 3d and go straight to the fourth dimension ;) Well maybe on that note you could really play around with it, I havent gone through the plot line but you could look at him going back to far and everything being 1 dimensional and oops too far. Then BC in 2 dimension, Egypt in 3 dimension but maybe to make things interesting is if it was possible to make it look like claymation to capture how they did alot of special effects in the 80s and then present looks like normal graphics, and the future is in the 4th dimension.

I had a bizarre idea this morning. I don't know if
It's necessarily what I want to do or not, but I
thought I'd throw it out here and see what the rest of
you think of it.

Starting as a gag, but becoming a game-wide graphical
theme, what if, when Furgason first travels back
through time to 90,000,000 BC or whatever the time is
where he meets up with Mucka (and inadvertently screws
up evolution) What if he's still a 3d rendered sprite
but the rest of the prehistoric world is hand-drawn? I'm sure there could be some jokes about warping to
before computer graphics were affordable, or some
silly stuff like that. Mucka, he's 3D, but maybe
that's just another indication of his evolved status,
how he's more advanced than the other fish at the
time.

The dark ages and Egypt times would probably still be
3d rendered, but might have some paper or
etching-looking filters thrown over everything. The
present and near future would be the "normal" 3D stuff
I've already been doing, and the future, who knows,
maybe we would come up with some completely different
style for that. Or maybe it's another joke, the
future's extra bright, or dark, or over-saturated
colorful, or completely black and white. Our story
doesn't involve the future much yet, so we've got
plenty of room to play around there.

Anyway, what brought on this idea was that I've been
playing around with that moon-eating swamp monster
sketch I drew, adding color mainly. I've really
gotten to like the look of it, and I'm sure I can make
a 3D one that will look decent but it might not have
quite the same personality. And this swamp monster is
from the distant past, at least the way I've currently
got it worked into the story. Since I haven't done
any other prehistoric graphics yet... well you see
where the idea came from.

Like I say I don't know if it's something I for-sure
want to do, but let me know what you think. (And
don't just say "you're the art guy, you decide",
actually give it some thought and come up with an
opinion ;^)
