Hey,

Hope you're enjoying the internship! I've just transformed the GNU Linux Users Group at Hampshire College into a LibrePlanet/Students for Free Culture chapter (yes, the slash is in our official name, a tribute to our favorite naming controversy). We've been pretty successful here in gaining a lot of interest and ideas, but we're still new and things are on hold until Spring term.

Here are pictures from  student group sign-up day https://picasaweb.google.com/115185196097754724593/LibrePlanetStudentsForFreeCultureHampfest2011
Here's our wiki page:

Here are all the ideas we've brainstormed so far:

We have big hopes for our, currently brainstorm-stage, five year plan [=We're going to imagine what Hampshire College would look like as an ideal free software and free culture friendly school. We want to consider what would normally be considered impossible to accomplish. Form there, we'll combine similar ideas, rank them based on difficulty, and see what steps would have to happen before the change would be accepted. Ideas like requiring free and open formats for all assignments, using free licenses for all copyrights owned by the school, would be top priority because they end the use and promotion of non-free works. Then things like making as much data as possible open would come next after the free licensing is expected and hopefully in policy, because these are additional services that add value and don't yet exist.

Hello LibrePlanet people, it's Andrew Engelbrecht, the FSF's intern from
last fall.

Will Rico and I are planning on starting a GLUG (GNU/Linux User's Group)
and would appreciate any input or involvement by you. Since this group
is still a concept, we are hoping that you might share your experience,
suggest topics or themes for meetings, or recommend ways to attract new
users to the group.

Do you think this group would fulfill a useful purpose? Is this a
project you'd like to help grow?

For our first planning session, we are thinking about meeting perhaps
January 26 (a Thursday) in the evening, or January 28 (a Saturday) in
the morning (around 10am). We haven't chosen a location to meet yet,
though it should be somewhere in the Boston area.

Thanks!
-Andrew
