I also set the ENV variables:
 LINES and ROWS

I suggest you just set BOTH pairs -- one piece  of software
will use one, and one another -- and then one will switch
(in new version) to the other!

(that is, both lines AND rows, even though synonyms.  cover all bases.
a prior trn used LINES, I believe, and I think it uses rows now --
I don't know, just set them ALL!)
