LYNX-DEV unwanted junk e-mails

From: Philip Webb
Subject: LYNX-DEV unwanted junk e-mails

there are other -- nastier -- things we can do,
but for now i'm assuming that people like conserve are innocent users
who don't realise that what they are doing is very anti-social,
and that somehow the e-address of lynx-dev accidentally got added
to a list of addresses held by cyberpromo , which believes
that recipients of e-mails it is forwarding are willing to accept them.

lynx-dev is a discussion list for programmers & users of the Lynx browser.
it carries a large volume of quite serious material daily.
its subscribers are mostly very hard-working computer professionals.
if they want to buy items or service via the Internet
they are very well qualified to find out about them for themselves elsewhere.

(1) to conserve : please let us know how you came to hear of cyberpromo.com
& what they told you about themselves & their service.
a short & simple apology to the 200+ people you've inconvenienced
would also be in order.

(2) to cyberpromo : please remove lynx-dev from the list of e-addresses
you use for your forwarding service.
we would like to know how it came to be there.
can we be assured that you will take more care in future?
an apology would also be in order from yourselves.
