I didn't quite follow this last. Are you saying "if your main
requirement is for email get POP mail service over a PPP
connection"?

The hotmail service, I believe, is an http-accessed gateway into
internet email. I have suspected its main attraction is to
people with PPP and a browser but who have for one reason or
another never completed the installation to the point that mail
works. This should not include most people with Lynx access on a
multi-user system. My first reaction to this post was "If you
have access to a shell account, hotmail.com is a waste of your
time; use Pine, Elm, emacs or some other real mail program you
can run in your shell account."

While I suspect that there is usually some alternative that is
preferable to these free email services, I am not sure that the
answer is always to dump your shell access.
