I am sure of what I have - it IS an OLD CD of the slackware v3.0
distribution, containing sources for kernel v1.2.13.  I'm trying to
save the trouble of re-installing *everything* to a new distribution
just to fix one problem. 

Thanks to those who answered my questions (I have a few rather
detailed replies ;)  Your help is appreciated.
