There have been a series of reports of abrupt [1]crashes when people
access Webcrawler, Microsoft, and various other large sites. Paul
Gilmartin figured out that it's [2]not Lynx. Now Bela Lubkin has a
[3]probable culprit.
The real fix to the real problem requires applying a patch to the
operating system. Until you can get your sysop to apply the
appropriate patch, a workaround that will work for users is to employ
IP numbers to specific IP nodes at these sites. This is well explained
in David Morgan's [4] HTML - Lynx Help tipsheet. In fact, if you
suffer from this you may need to use [5] this link to get to Dave's
page.
Henry Nelson points out that if you have the resources for a compile
and you hold your mouth just right, you can [6] compile the bind
library yourself and fix the problem.
Back to [7]Al's picks from the lynx-dev discussion.
