Not that much to learn, either:
wget (-r | --recursive)

Plus, fairly intuitive options for limiting depth.  Further, it's small,
tested, supported, free, etc.  Finally, it maintains file timestamps,
can mirror based on timestamps, can restart FTP transfers, is available
for Win32, and on and on. 

WRTW (why reinvent the wheel)?
