People talk about using mail "folders", and imply that
if I had any brains at all, that's what I'd use (re the
"lynx" prefix on subject line).

I don't know anything about "folders" -- other than to despise
the name as used by M$ (and now Sun too!) for the "user-unfriendly"
word "directory". But that's a whole other matter. :-(

Anyway, all I know about mail folders is that when I "s" (save)
an eamil, via mutt, the default place is a directory of the
name of the sender (I think).

But back to the subject line, with mutt I do "o s" (Option Sort by
Subject), and get this screen, top part of which is this:

q:Quit d:Del u:Undel s:Save m:Mail r:Reply g:Group ?:Help

THIS is all the "folders" I need -- notice how the subject-lines
create a pseudo-threads grouping (earliest first WITHIN group).

Works fine for me.

And for everyone, REGARDLESS of their mail-reader, ancient
(eg the standard unix "mail") OR new and fancy.

Yeah, "Re: Lynx" takes a few chars from a line. (just "LYNX:"
would be fewer!) ("LY:" fewer yet, or "LX:" maybe).

Anyway, sorting by subject line sure makes it easy for me
to (a) SEE what mail I have and (b) READ it via "threads".

There might indeed be other ways to do this -- but will
it work with ALL email-readers?

Joke I heard today on radio, re "love" virus:

Is that M$ program named "outlook", or is it "look out!"?
