Sure, but that's no reason for dropping differentiation between signer 
and author.

Sure, but to show the correct author in 'mtn log' or 'mtn annotate' et 
al, that would then have to parse *all* possible third-party VCS source 
metadata certs.

And no, dropping that information isn't an option, IMO.
