Follow-up Comment #9, bug #55724 (project octave): The problem might be that MXE Octave's pkgconfig is used to query the configuration of xkbcommon. But that fails to provide the information for the host's xkbcommon. Part of the log/qtbase file reads: Checking for xkbcommon >= 0.5.0...
