Sure, as I told Bud and a few others, if you get something significant
working and want a python interface, let me know what would be
convenient for you.

It shouldn't be hard.  The --list-increments or -l switch returns some
basic information:

~ # rdiff-backup -l /mnt/back/usr
Found 7 increments:
    usr.2003-05-21T04:22:00-07:00.dir   Wed May 21 04:22:00 2003
    usr.2003-05-29T04:22:01-07:00.dir   Thu May 29 04:22:01 2003
    usr.2003-06-04T04:22:00-07:00.dir   Wed Jun  4 04:22:00 2003

but there's no reason other information couldn't be displayed.
