| This leads to another question, why does straw use Makefiles rather
| than distutils?
I have a patch to implement this.
It has some features not present in the current system:
* checks for correct Python version
* checks for required modules (can be disabled)
* gettext tools (xgettext, msgmerge and msgfmt) in pure Python
* can specify prefix and sysconfdir (a la configure)
* can specify path to gconftool executable
* can specify schema file directory
* option not to install schema files
* build rpm easy
It needs some clean up and more testing. I will have look into this
arch thing and try to post a patch later this week.
