Theoretically there could be environments called `macrocode' in
"regular" LaTeX as well, right?

Sounds sensible.

Do you remember the discussion we had about this before?  I gave up on
this, see <URL:http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.latex.preview.bugs/688>.
