Some of the parts in this class, especially the early engineering samples,
once the rest line was programmed to be some other function you could no
longer program the part, because reset is used as part of the program
algorithm.
See if you can get your part to reprogram into a simple LED blinker on some
other pin to determine if this is really the case for you.
Same kind of problem you run into if you program your part, Tiny2313 and the
like, to use the 128 KHz oscillator as the clock. You can not reprogram the
part, this ones is at least mentioned in the errata in the data sheet.
