I've included a few of the private patches WinAVR also has (0b binary
constants in the compiler, AVR-COFF patch for binutils), but have to
integrate a few others like the extension for newer AVR devices. I
originally tried to avoid that, but now that GCC 4 doesn't seem to be
around the corner, I really contemplate shipping a patched version
instead. That would make the FreeBSD ports/packages almost identical
to the versions WinAVR ships.
So in short, I could really recommend FreeBSD as an AVR development
platform. :-)
