Let's see whether it will be accepted.
For the forseeable future, Eric will certainly continue including it
in WinAVR though.

They could always apply the patch, too. ;-) (As you are mostly on your
own on most Linux distributions, and need to compile the compiler
yourself, it ought to be fairly trivial to apply the patch if you
want.)
