I will comment on this later - I have looked closer and it seems things

1) checkout latest php5 cvs sources.
(guess you could do 'touch Zend/*.[ly]' on an already checked
out tree ...)
2) make sure you have bison-1.875[a] installed.
3) compile php
4) make sure you have a valid config file for it
(configure over here with:
./configure --with-config-file-path=/etc/php/cli-php5
and then have:
/etc/php/cli-php5/php.ini
)
5) Just run ./sapi/cli/php from the source dir.
