We've got a custom-built defect tracking system, and on our various
CVS servers, the checkin prog talks to the defect database. It's done
to create associations between all changed files and a particular defect,
and also as a way of enforcing that engineers specify which defect a
checkin is intended to fix. It's not the most brilliant thing in the
world, and there are obvious ways for a malicious user to defeat it,
but that's what we are doing with it.
