I think I don't understand your question.

I never tried to register the mime-type "text/*". 
Looking in the mswindows registry I always see a mimetype linked to just 1
extension. I see no example of "<something>/*". Also I see no mimetype
"text/*" in the IANA database.  

Is it really a mimetype? If so does anybody have an idea how I can register it
in MSWindows?
