Bug (or rather, missing feature)
grep-2.4 does the wrong thing with Macintosh text files.
At home, I use a double-boot Macintosh, with Mac OS 9 and
GNU/Linux. When running under GNU/Linux, the Mac OS volumes are
mounted read-only, but when I grep text files, each one appears to
contain one single huge line, because they contain no LF's, only CR's.
In addition, I sometimes bring MS-DOS text files from work, and they
are stored on my Macintosh with CRLF's. I think grep should be able
to process these files, even if hosted on a UNIX system.
So I have changed grep, to introduce a new option that will allow all
three formats in the same file at the same time. Are you interested
with this new option? In this case, I will send you a longer message,
including the diff -c output.
