I am trying to install binutils on a SPARCstation 5 running
Solaris 7, and have run up against the documented problem of not
having ar already installed.
Note that Solaris does provide ar, in /usr/ccs/bin. I don't know if
it is installed by default, but it is available as part of the
standard distribution.
I followed the instructions to
build ar in binutils/README to the letter, but the included
shell script fails.
You didn't include an actual copy of your shell script. From the
output, it looks to me like you omitted ../libiberty/needed-list in
ar_LDADD in the invocation of make.
