Tar Exit Codes

Please can someone point me in the right direction for this:

I require a list of the Tar Exit Status Codes for assessing Tar errors.

For example, a current error that I am receiving from the TAR command is:
"TAR EXITING WITH STATUS = 40"

To-date I've been unable to locate this list on the Internet.
