Hi,
I am a member of the Swedish translation team <address@hidden>,
and I have just completed a Swedish translation of
binutils-2.12-pre020121.pot. I would like to comment on a
few things I have found.
binutils/arsup.c:433
| if (!obfd)
| {
|
| fprintf(stderr, _("%s: no open archive\n"), program_name);
| maybequit();
| }
| else
There is an extra space after `open' in this message.
binutils/debug.c:1152
| bfd_vma addr ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED;
| {
| /* FIXME. */
| debug_error (_("debug_record_label not implemented"));
| return false;
| }
|
All other messages of this kind have a `:' after the label.
binutils/ieee.c:1919
| switch (kind)
| {
| default:
| ieee_error (info, ty_start, _("unsupported qualifer"));
| return false;
|
| case 1:
The word `qualif>i<er' is misspelled.
binutils/readelf.c:2675
| if (do_segments)
| {
| printf
| (_("\nProgram Header%s:\n"), elf_header.e_phnum > 1 ? "s" : "");
|
| if (is_32bit_elf)
| printf
This assumes plural is constructed with plural-s, but that
is not the case in many languages, for example Swedish.
binutils/readelf.c:3250
| if (! do_sections)
| return 1;
|
| printf (_("\nSection Header%s:\n"), elf_header.e_shnum > 1 ? "s" : "");
|
| if (is_32bit_elf)
| printf
Same thing, plural-s.
binutils/readelf.c:3884
| if (i == elf_header.e_shnum)
| {
| printf (_("\nCould not find unwind info section for "));
|
| if (string_table == NULL)
| printf ("%d", unwsec->sh_name);
| else
| printf ("'%s'", SECTION_NAME (unwsec));
| }
The else clause that prints the SECTION_NAME contains quotation
signs that need to be translated. I also think most other
messages in binutils use quotes like `this' and not like
'this'.
binutils/readelf.c:5988
| printf (_(" DWARF Version: %d\n"), info.li_version);
| printf (_(" Prologue Length: %d\n"),
info.li_prologue_length);
| printf (_(" Minimum Instruction Length: %d\n"),
info.li_min_insn_length);
| printf (_(" Initial value of 'is_stmt': %d\n"),
info.li_default_is_stmt);
| printf (_(" Line Base: %d\n"), info.li_line_base);
| printf (_(" Line Range: %d\n"), info.li_line_range);
| printf (_(" Opcode Base: %d\n"), info.li_opcode_base);
I think this quote should be `is_stmt'.
binutils/readelf.c:9010
| if (dynamic_symbols == NULL)
| {
| error (_("conflict list with without table"));
| return 0;
| }
This message does not make sense to me. Perhaps it is wrong
in some way.
binutils/readelf.c:9093
| case NT_PSINFO: return _("NT_PSINFO (psinfo structure)");
| case NT_LWPSTATUS: return _("NT_LWPSTATUS (lwpstatus_t structure)");
| case NT_LWPSINFO: return _("NT_LWPSINFO (lwpsinfo_t structure)");
| case NT_WIN32PSTATUS: return _("NT_WIN32PSTATUS (win32_pstatus
strcuture)");
| default:
| sprintf (buff, _("Unknown note type: (0x%08x)"), e_type);
| return buff;
`structure' is misspelled as `str>cu<ture'.
In binutils/objcopy.c:setup_section() there is a word
puzzle with
err = _("foo");
goto loser;
[...]
err = _("bar");
goto loser;
[...]
loser:
non_fatal (_("some message with %s in it", err));
If you don't have access to the source code it is almost
impossible to get such translations right, and even with the
source code, it can be a puzzle to make it work in another
language.
I hope my comments can be useful.
