2.12 error

Hi !

 as it asks to report this error I'm doing so. I got this error when I 
 compiled gcc-3.1, the build failed as I did ./configure make and not
 make bootstrap - so I don't know if this is relevant at all, but I 
 assume the overlap should not have happened even due to my error in
 compiling gcc....
