Hi Alan,

I just tried binutils-2.12.90.0.9 from ftp.kernel.org, and this version
indeed fixes the problem; thanks for the hint.

Is there any chance that Lu's latest changes will soon be merged back into
the FSF release?? I would think that is rather urgent and indeed should have
been triggered by the glibc people.
