The following feature request I also filed as
http://bugzilla.suse.de/show_bug.cgi?id=23532 (accounts on request):

There should be a switch treating messages that differ in whitespace
only as equal:

1. Drop all whitespace at the beginning and at the end of a message

2. Trun all "[ \t\n]+" sequences into a single " " (space).

Thus:

"\nhello\t world!\n\n" == "hello world!"

[...]
