That seems more like a problem with the POSIX spec than with anything
else. -NUM is widely accepted by other versions of diff not based on gnu.
Ignoring reality makes for a rather useless specification.
Anyway, sorry for venting -- it's not your fault, but POSIX seems
to annoy me more than help me. :-(

This works for me and it is now a permanent part of my environment.
