This will do. It is guaranteed to reach me, which comp.lang.awk is not.

It will depend upon how you've done it, and if it remains compatible
with the rest of gawk.

I am happy to review your change. It will help if you can produce it as
a patch to 3.1.6, instead of 3.1.5.
