I did so in a project a year ago. I removed lots of kernel output
messages that were not error messages. The philosophy was to get the
kernel quiet, as long as there ar no errors.

The aim was to get the system to its login prompt without messages
srolling of the screen. The reason to do this was to make sure, error
messages can be seen. So in this case any cls() would be removed, too.

So, my vote is for removing the cls() calls and leting the menu clear
the screen. Howebver, I am not sure what to do in case there are error
messages and the user wants a menu. Perhaps a 'hotkey' could be used to
suppress the menu.
