Hello all,

I've checked throguh the archives and haven't seen a solution to the problem
I'm having so here goes....

I've recently installed GRUB from the tar.gz package and then I made a floppy
disk version of GRUB. That's all fine, I can boot from the floppy and load my
linux, solaris and windows partitions. (to load my Linux I have to use the
following lines: )

kernel /boot/kernel-new root=7205 vga=7
initrd /boot/initrd-new.img

I'm now trying to install GRUB onto the MBR of the ide raid drives.
(My setup as seen by grub is)
(hd0,0) FAT32 partition
(hd0,1) Linux Swap partition
(hd0,4) Extended partition (Linux)
(hd1,0) Unknown (Solaris swap)
(hd1,1) Linux swap (actually Solaris - they have the same tag ID)

I copied all of the files (stage 1, 1.5, 2 etc) into my /boot/grub folder on
linux (hd0,4)

I then ran 'setup (hd0)' from the floppy and no errors are reported.

However when I try and boot I see that the 1st stage loads and it looks like
stage 1.5 (ext2) is loading as well. I then get a message saying 'Please wait'
(or something similar I'm not in front of the machine in question)and it just
stops there.. I can get no further. Does this mean Stage2 couldn't be loaded?
Is this a geometry problem or similar?

I also tried to copy the stage files to the fat partition and install from
there and I get exactly the same error.

The only thing that is a bit different on this machine is the IDE raid card. I
have two 20GB drives which are striped as RAID0 so I actually have 40GB of disk
space. The Solaris is on a SCSI hard-drive attached to an Adaptec 2940UW
card.
The SCSI card cannot be booted from directly unless I remove the IDE Raid card.

I've resorted to using the latest version of Lilo which recognises ide raid
cards but would much rather have the power of GRUB. Any ideas anyone?

Cheers!
