Hi,
I use the 0.92 ext2fs image from the Grub site.
Every thing works fine if I operate Grub from floppy or
the first hard disk.
For eg: I have a menu item.
title MBR of the First Hard disk (hd0)
rootnoverify (hd0)
chainloader (hd0)+1
This menu item boots fine when booted from Floppy,
and an installation of grub on (hd0,6) ext2fs,
But reports 'Error 25: Read Error' when tried
from (hd1,6) reiserfs, (hd1) MBR with root on (hd1,6),
and (hd1,8) ext2fs. And to add to the confustion
it sometimes work.
Incdently if I put it on (hd1) with root on (fd0)(;),
it works fine.
I also have the following Menu items
title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
title Windows 98
rootnovierify (hd0,2)
makeactive
chainloader +1
title NetBSD 1.5.1
rootnoverify (hd0,3)
chainloader +1
Among these Windows XP always work, the other two only
rarely work.
All other OSes from the (hd1) works just fine.
I have:
title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
makeactive
bootloader +1
title Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (Woody) (Chainload the boot sector)
rootnoverify (hd1,6)
bootloader +1
title Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (Woody) (Direct Boot)
root (hd1,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.19-k6 root=1647 apm=on reboot=w
initrd /boot/initrd-2.4.19-k6
title Red Hat Linux 7.1 (Chainload the boot sector)
rootnoverify (hd1,7)
chainloader +1
I'll be glad to provide any more info.
Ram Chandar.
