GRUB error 17 and booting from CD

Hi,

I've wercked my system by making my boot partition Reiser4. Now, GRUB
obviously refuses to boot since it can't load stage 1.5 (error 17).
No big problem, I thought - I'll just boot from my (Gentoo) LiveCD and restore
the boot partition to something readable (I have a backup of it (.tar.bz2) on
one of the other partitions, which is ReiserFS 3.x).
Alas, the system won't boot from CD!
I've checked all the bios settings etc and it still won't boot. It boots from
floppies though.

Has anyone encountered similar problems or know what is wrong?
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

If anyone has (or can point me towards) a ReiserFS 3.x capable boot-floppy
image, that would make my day...
