yes you should be able. But apparently the CD doesn't
use Grub (at least I tried it only with Ubuntu 6.06LTS)
so we can only access the installed files and cannot
repair grub from the CD. I tried it with the Ubuntu
6.06 LTS CD and used the Menu entry
   "Start or Install Ubuntu".
When the system has booted you should find your hard
disk and you should be able to mount it ... Since I
don't have Kubuntu at hand and cannot give you a
better guideline. Then you should find the configuration
file /boot/grub/menu.lst

----

If you have still access to a different system (connected to
the www, you should be able to prepare a functional boot
floppy given that your system has still a floppy.
Instruction how to do that are given here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Creating-a-GRUB-boot-floppy
.html
Beware that a floppy created in this way does not have
a file system and puts you on the grub command line.
If you want one with a file system and possibly a
different menu.lst, you might foillow my remarks
in the Grub Wiki http://grub.enbug.org/GrubLegacy
about creating a bootable floppy.

-----

Otherwise you could grep a Kantotix image from
http://kanotix.com and boot that. It uses Grub
in El Torito no emulation mode. You should get
a graphical boot menu, which you can leave with
ESC into the standard text mode Grub menu.
With a "C" you can enter Grub command line.

There you might try a

configfile (hd

and enter a TAB. Grub will then either display
possible hard disks or do command completion and
will list the partitions.

Most probable your linux partition got a different
type ...

Check with Andries Brower's list of partition types
http://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/partitions/

regards & good luck
