hmm.  Did you manually specify
  --enable-double
when using fontforge 20100501 ?  We've seen other problems due to this.   
Unfortunately I don't know how to specify "fontforge with --enable-double  
support" in a configure script.  :(

I suppose at the very least we could mention that on the installation  
instructions.
