That's normal.  Perl's embedding libraries suck.  I'm thinking of removing the 
perl module from m4.

That's wierd!  I've no idea where that comes from.

I see from your other mail that you are using an oldish tarball.  Can you try 
CVS HEAD and see if you still have the same problems please?
